In 2018, the purchase of meals for home delivery increased by 9% compared to 2017.
The Nielsen Connected Commerce Report 2018 highlighted the development of the e-commerce ecosystem in Portugal: 94% of Portuguese with internet access have already made an at least one online purchase. And if the interests were even distributed across several sectors – between travel, fashion, tickets for shows, stationery and also technology – food is gaining importance: compared to 2017, there was a 9% increase in purchases of food online meals.
“In a scenario of growing confidence and consumption recovery, Nielsen has been observing a greater demand for solutions that offer a better quality of life (…). In fact, we also see this trend in e-commerce, with convenience [meal delivery] and leisure [travel] solutions growing in a very noticeable way”, explained Mafalda Silva Ferreira, Client Development Senior at Nielsen.
