According to a recent study by the consultancy firm Forrester, in 2022 e-commerce will account for 13.9% of all retail trade in Western Europe, growing at a rate of 11.3% per year over the next 5 years. Spain and Italy will lead this exponential growth.
TIts major impact will be on music-, video- and DVD-related product categories, computers, show tickets, books, software, video games and toys. In these, around half of sales will be online.
JEcommerce Europe, in its European B2C Ecommerce Report, already notes that turnover in this sector in Europe grew by 13.3% in 2015 to €455.3 billion and around 296 million online buyers spending an individual average of €1,540.
The act of buying something will become increasingly dominated by social networks and the use of technology.
